    Latest news on the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a Palestinian militant group that opposes Israel and seeks to establish a Palestinian state in the occupied territories. The group is backed by Iran and has carried out several attacks against Israeli targets, including rockets and suicide bombings. The group is also involved in the ongoing conflict in Gaza, where it has clashed with Israel and Hamas.

    The PIJ was founded in 1981 by Palestinian students in Egypt with the aim of liberating historical Palestine through armed struggle and by appealing to the region's Islamic heritage. It is the second-largest militant group in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, after Hamas, which governs Gaza. Unlike Hamas, PIJ refuses to join elections and appears to have no ambition to form a government in Gaza or the West Bank.

The incident has led to a blame game between Israel and Palestinians, with Israeli authorities attributing the attack to Islamic Jihad. They allege that rockets misfired by Islamic Jihad militants towards Israel failed after launch and hit the hospital. However, several countries, including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey, have accused Israel of bombing the hospital.
