RTX Corporation was formed in April 2020 by the merger of equals between the aerospace subsidiaries of United Technologies Corporation (UTC) and Raytheon Company, two major U.S. defense contractors and industrial corporations. Before the merger, UTC spun off its non-aerospace subsidiaries Otis Elevator Company and Carrier Corporation. UTC was the nominal survivor of the merger but it changed its name to Raytheon Technologies and moved its headquarters to Waltham, Massachusetts. The combined company changed its name to RTX Corporation in July 2023.
RTX Corporation operates in four business segments: Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, Raytheon Intelligence & Space, and Raytheon Missiles & Defense. Collins Aerospace provides aerospace and defense products and services for aircraft manufacturers, airlines, regional, business, and general aviation, as well as for defense and commercial space operations. Pratt & Whitney supplies aircraft engines for commercial, military, business jet, and general aviation customers, as well as auxiliary power units. Raytheon Intelligence & Space develops and provides integrated space, communication, and sensor systems, and cyber and software solutions to intelligence, defense, federal, and commercial customers. Raytheon Missiles & Defense provides end-to-end solutions for U.S. and foreign government customers designed to detect, track, and engage threats.
