Köln were founding members of the Bundesliga and its inaugural champions in 1963-64, having also won the German championship in 1962. The golden era peaked with the 1977-78 double of Bundesliga title and DFB-Pokal, one of four cup triumphs, before a UEFA Cup final appearance in 1986. Legends such as Wolfgang Overath, Toni Schumacher, Pierre Littbarski and Lukas Podolski have worn the famous red and white.
