About our PS5 news
Latest news on the PlayStation 5 (PS5), Sony's home games console, covering the PS5 Pro, PlayStation Plus, exclusive games, the DualSense controller, PS VR2, State of Play showcases and news of the next PlayStation.
The PS5, also written PlayStation5, is made by Sony Interactive Entertainment and succeeded the PS4. It comes in disc and digital editions, with slimmer redesigns and a more powerful PS5 Pro model. Its fast SSD, 4K output and ray tracing are central to how modern PlayStation games look and load.
Coverage follows new game announcements, release dates, system software updates and hardware revisions. It also tracks stock and availability, PlayStation Plus subscription changes, backwards compatibility and the debate over game prices and remasters. Reports on Xbox and Nintendo rivals, plus Sony's studios and publishing plans, often shape the conversation.
The DualSense controller brought haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that make games feel more tactile. PlayStation fans follow first-party exclusives, indie hits and big annual franchises with intense loyalty. Online communities share trophies, speed runs and mods for favourite titles, while the console doubles as a living-room hub for streaming.
The PS5 went on sale in November 2020, first in selected countries and then worldwide a week later. Early demand was hit by global shortages that lasted for much of its first years. Sony followed with a slimmer model and, in November 2024, the PS5 Pro. The PlayStation brand itself dates back to the mid-1990s.
