    About our Chisinau news

Latest news on Chișinău, also known as Kishinev, the capital and most populous city of the Republic of Moldova. The city is Moldova's main industrial and commercial centre, and is located in the middle of the country, on the river Byk.

Chișinău has a population of about 600,000 people and is Moldova's largest city. It is also one of the three political centres of the country, along with Tiraspol and Bendery.

The city was founded in 1436 by Stephen III of Moldavia and was originally known as Cetatea Albă (White Citadel). Chișinău became the capital of Moldavia in 1565, when it was known as Ștefan Vodă.

During the 18th century, the city was briefly occupied by Imperial Russia and then by the Ottoman Empire. It became part of the Russian Empire in 1812 and was known as Kishinev.

After the Russian Revolution, Kishinev became part of the Bessarabia Governorate and then, in 1918, part of the Kingdom of Romania. In 1940, it was annexed by the Soviet Union and became the capital of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic.

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Chișinău has undergone a significant transformation. The city is now a modern European capital, with a thriving economy and a growing population.
