In October 2020, the New York Post published a story about a laptop computer that allegedly belonged to Hunter Biden and contained emails that suggested he had used his influence to help Burisma. The story sparked a controversy, with some people saying that it was part of a Russian disinformation campaign and others saying that it was a legitimate story.
Hunter Biden agreed to plead guilty to two counts of wilful failure to pay income tax and a separate federal firearm offense as part of a plea deal with the Justice Department in June 2023.
