About our Paris Saint-Germain Football Club news
Latest news on Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), covering Ligue 1, Champions League, Coupe de France, transfers, fixtures and results from Parc des Princes.
Paris Saint-Germain, known as PSG or "Les Parisiens", is the most successful club in French football history, with more major trophies than any domestic rival. Founded in 1970 through the merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain, the club plays its home matches at the Parc des Princes in the French capital. Since 2011, PSG has been owned by Qatar Sports Investments, with Nasser Al-Khelaifi serving as club president, and the team has been guided by manager Luis Enrique since 2023. Under his leadership, PSG completed a rare sextuple of trophies in a single calendar year and went on to retain the UEFA Champions League title, cementing their status among Europe's most powerful clubs.
PSG's transfer activity remains closely watched, with the club continuing to invest heavily in first-team talent alongside academy graduates and promising young signings. The Qatari ownership model has long attracted scrutiny under UEFA's financial fair play regulations, with rival clubs and administrators questioning state-backed spending in European football. President Nasser Al-Khelaifi has also faced legal scrutiny in France unconnected to his role at the club, adding a layer of off-field intrigue to PSG's continued sporting dominance. Even so, the team's consistency in Ligue 1 and European competition has kept it at the centre of football's biggest storylines.
Few fixtures capture French football's cultural divide like "Le Classique", PSG's storied rivalry with Olympique de Marseille that pits the capital against the south. The match reflects a broader tension between Parisian wealth and Marseille's working-class pride, drawing passionate support from both the Collectif Ultras Paris and their Marseille counterparts. PSG's global appeal, built through a succession of star signings over the years, has made the club one of the most followed in world sport, with fans across Europe, Asia and the Americas. The club's women's section, competing as Paris Saint-Germain Féminine, adds a further dimension to its footballing identity in France.
PSG's early years were turbulent, including relegation to the third tier shortly after formation, before a swift return to Ligue 1 and a move to the Parc des Princes in the mid-1970s. The 1980s brought the club's first major honours under president Francis Borelli, followed by a golden era in the 1990s under Canal+ ownership featuring stars such as George Weah, David Ginola and Raí. Everything changed in 2011, when Qatar Sports Investments acquired the club and transformed it into one of the wealthiest and most star-studded teams in world football. That investment eventually delivered PSG's long-awaited first Champions League triumph, a breakthrough that reshaped the club's place in football history.
From Ligue 1 title races to Champions League nights at the Parc des Princes, PSG remains one of the most talked-about clubs in world football.
