About our NC State Wolfpack Basketball news

Latest news on NC State Wolfpack Basketball, North Carolina State men's and women's basketball, including game results, rankings, and team updates.

NC State Wolfpack Basketball represents one of college basketball's most storied programmes. The men's team competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference under head coach Will Wade, who joined the programme in March 2025. The women's team, led by Wes Moore since 2013, has established itself as a national power with eight consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

The men's programme is rebuilding under Wade after a difficult 2024-25 campaign. However, the previous season delivered a magical run to the Final Four, including the programme's first ACC Tournament championship since 1987. The Wolfpack won five games in five days to capture that title, led by DJ Burns Jr, whose joy and skill captivated the nation during their improbable March run. Wade brings a proven track record, having led his last five teams to the NCAA Tournament.

The women's team shared the 2024-25 ACC regular season championship with a 16-2 conference record and finished ranked ninth nationally. Moore's squad went 18-0 at home in Reynolds Coliseum with 15 sellouts, showcasing the passionate support for the programme. The previous season saw the Wolfpack reach the Final Four for only the second time in programme history. Moore ranks among the top five winningest active coaches in college basketball.

The Wolfpack's heritage dates to legendary coach Everett Case, who arrived in 1946 and transformed Southern basketball. The programme has captured two national championships: in 1974 under Norm Sloan with All-American David Thompson, and the unforgettable 1983 title under Jim Valvano. That "Cardiac Pack" team defeated top-ranked Houston 54-52 on Lorenzo Charles's buzzer-beating dunk, creating one of sport's most iconic moments. Valvano's spirit lives on through the V Foundation for Cancer Research.

Both programmes play their home matches at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, with the women also hosting matches at historic Reynolds Coliseum and the men's team holding an annual Heritage Game there. The passionate fanbase and the programme's rich tradition continue to attract top talent. NC State has produced numerous professional players, with recent graduate Saniya Rivers becoming the highest-drafted player in women's programme history.
