    About our Mykolaiv news

Latest news on Mykolaiv, also known as Nikolaev, is a city located in southern Ukraine. The city is situated on the right bank of the Ingul River, in the Mykolaiv Oblast. As of the 2001 Ukrainian census, the city has a population of 493,000 people. The city is an important industrial centre and seaport. Mykolaiv's industries include shipbuilding, food processing, and machine building. The city is also home to a number of universities and research institutes.

Mykolaiv was founded in 1789 by the Russian Empress Catherine the Great. The city was named after Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors. Mykolaiv soon became an important shipbuilding center, with the construction of several shipyards. In the 19th century, the city's population grew rapidly, reaching over 60,000 people by 1900.

During the Soviet period, Mykolaiv was an important industrial city, with several large factories located here. In 1941, the city was occupied by Nazi Germany, and many of its residents were killed or deported. After the war, the city was rebuilt and its industries were restored.

Today, Mykolaiv is a major industrial and cultural center in Ukraine. The city's shipyards continue to build ships for the Ukrainian navy and for export. Mykolaiv's universities and research institutes are important centers of learning and scientific research. The city is also home to a number of museums, theaters, and other cultural institutions.
