    About our Rwanda news

Latest news on Rwanda, covering politics, the economy, tourism, the Great Lakes region conflict, and daily life in Kigali and beyond.

Rwanda is a small, hilly, landlocked country in East and Central Africa. It borders Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Known as the "Land of a Thousand Hills", it has become one of the continent's fastest-growing economies. Kigali, the capital, is widely regarded as one of Africa's cleanest and safest cities.

In eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, conflict involving the M23 rebel group has repeatedly drawn in Rwanda. Kigali has faced accusations of providing military support, which it denies. Peace agreements and international mediation have sought to end the fighting and secure troop withdrawals, though progress remains slow. Rwanda has also faced criticism from rights groups over restrictions on political opposition and freedom of expression.

Rwanda observes Liberation Day every 4 July, commemorating the end of the 1994 genocide and the country's recovery since. The Kigali Genocide Memorial remains a central site of remembrance and education for visitors and residents alike. Community life is shaped by "umuganda", a monthly nationwide day of collective work that brings neighbours together. Wildlife tourism, including gorilla trekking and safaris in parks such as Volcanoes and Akagera, draws visitors and supports local communities.

Rwanda's modern history was shaped by Belgian colonial rule, which entrenched ethnic divisions between Hutu and Tutsi communities. These tensions culminated in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, in which around 800,000 people were killed in roughly 100 days. The Rwandan Patriotic Front, then led by Paul Kagame, ended the genocide and has governed the country ever since. Rwanda has since pursued reconciliation and rapid development, though the trauma of the genocide continues to shape society decades later.

From regional diplomacy and economic transformation to tourism and community life, Rwanda continues to attract international attention. Our Ðǿմ«Ã½ feed on Rwanda brings together the latest headlines from reliable sources. It covers politics, the economy, security developments in the Great Lakes region, and cultural life. Whether you are following regional diplomacy or planning a visit, this feed offers an up-to-date picture of Rwanda.
