He is best known for his time with the Brazilian national team, where he won three World Cup titles and is the all-time leading goalscorer for both Brazil and the world. Pele is also known for his successful club career, where he played for Santos FC in Brazil and New York Cosmos in the United States. He was known for his dribbling skills, speed, and powerful shot, and is remembered for his contributions to the game of football. Pele was named the "Athlete of the Century" by the International Olympic Committee and is considered a national hero in Brazil. He is credited with popularising the phrase "The Beautiful Game" and was known for his electrifying play and spectacular goals.
