Hull Kingston Rovers were founded in 1882 and are known as the Robins or simply Rovers, with KR a favourite shorthand among supporters. They are one of the oldest professional rugby league clubs in the world. In 2025 Rovers won their first Super League title, beating Wigan Warriors in the Grand Final.
Regular talking points include recruitment, the salary cap, stadium improvements and the club's push to stay among the leading sides in Super League. Rovers also compete in the Challenge Cup each year.
The Hull derby against Hull FC is one of the most eagerly awaited fixtures in the sport, splitting the city east and west. Rovers play at Craven Park in east Hull, opened as New Craven Park in 1989 and carrying several sponsor names since, including Hull College Craven Park Stadium. Roger Millward and Clive Sullivan are among the club's best-loved figures.
Rovers won league titles in the early 1920s and again between 1978 and 1985, the golden era under Roger Millward as player and coach. They beat Hull FC in the 1980 Challenge Cup final at Wembley, a famous derby decider. The club became a Super League side in 2007 after a long period of yo-yoing between divisions.
