    About our Drake Maye News

Latest news on Drake Maye, New England Patriots quarterback, covering NFL updates, Patriots team news, game analysis, career stats and more.

Drake Maye is an American professional football quarterback for the New England Patriots, drafted third overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. At just 23 years old, he has emerged as one of the NFL's most promising young quarterbacks, leading the Patriots to their first division title since 2019 during his second season. Born on 30 August 2002 in Huntersville, North Carolina, Maye comes from a notable athletic family, with his father Mark Maye having played quarterback at the University of North Carolina and briefly in the NFL.

The 2025 season marked a historic turnaround for both Maye and the Patriots, as he led the league in passer rating (113.5), completion percentage (72 per cent), and yards per attempt (8.9). He finished as runner-up in MVP voting, losing to Matthew Stafford by a single vote, and earned second-team All-Pro honours alongside his second consecutive Pro Bowl selection. Under head coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Maye guided the Patriots to a 14-3 regular season record and an appearance in Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks, where the Patriots faced a formidable defensive challenge.

Maye's journey includes a remarkable college career at North Carolina, where he won ACC Player of the Year, ACC Offensive Player of the Year, and both rookie honours in 2022, becoming only the second player in ACC history to sweep all four major awards. He led the NCAA in total offence with 5,019 yards and set school records with 4,321 passing yards and 38 touchdowns. Off the field, Maye is known for his unique nickname "Drake 'Drake Maye' Maye", which became a popular meme during the 2025 season, and he married his childhood sweetheart Ann Michael Hudson in June 2025 after dating since 2015.

The Maye family's athletic excellence extends across multiple sports, with his brother Luke hitting a buzzer-beater in the Elite Eight en route to winning the 2017 NCAA basketball championship with North Carolina, while brother Cole won the 2017 College World Series as a pitcher for Florida. This competitive family environment shaped Drake's development as a multi-sport athlete who also excelled in basketball during his time at Myers Park High School in Charlotte. His father's experience as a UNC quarterback provided invaluable guidance throughout his football journey.
