The Dodgers are a Major League Baseball (MLB) club based in Los Angeles, California. They play in the National League (NL) division known as the NL West. Their colours are Dodger blue and white, and the interlocking "LA" cap is recognised around the world.
Dodgers coverage often turns on big-money contracts, pitching depth, player development and October playoff runs. Rivals and fans alike debate how the club builds its team and how it handles the pressure of postseason baseball.
Dodger Stadium opened in 1962 in Chavez Ravine and is one of the oldest ballparks still in use in the majors. Fans know it for Dodger Dogs, sunsets over the hills and the voice of Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully. The club has a proud Latin American and Asian fan following, from Fernandomania to Hideo Nomo.
The club began in Brooklyn in 1883 and played at Ebbets Field. Jackie Robinson broke baseball's colour barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, and the team won its first World Series in 1955 before moving west. The rivalry with the Giants dates back to their New York days, and the Yankees were frequent October opponents. Hall of Famers include Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale.
