RB Leipzig, officially RasenBallsport Leipzig and nicknamed Die Roten Bullen, are one of German football's most talked-about clubs. Founded in 2009 through the backing of Red Bull, the Saxony side rose from the fifth tier to the Bundesliga in just seven seasons. They have since become regular contenders for European qualification and major domestic honours.
Follow the latest match reports, results and fixtures as Leipzig compete in the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal, alongside frequent appearances in the Champions League. Transfer news is a constant theme, with the club renowned for signing promising young players and developing them into stars. Talents such as Timo Werner, Dayot Upamecano, Christopher Nkunku, Josko Gvardiol and Dominik Szoboszlai all flourished at the Red Bull Arena before high-profile moves.
Leipzig's rapid rise has not been without controversy. Critics argue the club's corporate ownership model sits uneasily with Germany's 50+1 rule and fan-led football traditions. Rival supporters have protested against the project, yet the club has built a loyal local following and strong attendances in a city hungry for top-flight football.
The club's story is rooted in Leipzig's deep footballing heritage. The German Football Association was founded in the city in 1900, and VfB Leipzig became Germany's first national champions in 1903. RB Leipzig's emergence restored elite football to eastern Germany after decades in which traditional local sides such as Lokomotive Leipzig faded from the top divisions.
Since promotion in 2016, Leipzig have twice finished as Bundesliga runners-up, reached a Champions League semi-final in 2020, and won back-to-back DFB-Pokal titles in 2022 and 2023, adding the German Supercup later that year. Their pressing style and recruitment model have influenced clubs across Europe.
