Latest news on Royal Challengers Bengaluru, covering RCB and Royal Challengers Bangalore squad, fixtures, results, Virat Kohli and IPL and WPL titles.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, formerly Royal Challengers Bangalore, are one of the Indian Premier League's original eight franchises, founded in 2008. The team play their home matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the heart of Bengaluru. Led by captain Rajat Patidar and head coach Andy Flower, RCB remain among the most followed and commercially valuable sides in world cricket.
After 18 seasons without silverware, RCB finally lifted the IPL trophy in 2025, beating Punjab Kings in the final. They went on to defend the title in 2026, overcoming Gujarat Titans to become only the third franchise to win back-to-back IPL crowns. Virat Kohli, the team's long-serving talisman, anchored both triumphs and remains central to their identity.
The club's recent history carries deep sorrow alongside celebration. Eleven people died and dozens were injured in a crowd crush outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium on 4 June 2025, during felicitations for the maiden title. The tragedy prompted a judicial inquiry and lasting questions about crowd safety at major sporting events. In March 2026, ownership passed from Diageo's United Spirits to a consortium led by the Aditya Birla Group, valuing the franchise at around 1.78 billion dollars.
Few teams inspire devotion quite like RCB, whose fans turned the rallying cry 'Ee Sala Cup Namde', meaning 'this year, the cup is ours', into a cultural phenomenon. The franchise also fields a successful Women's Premier League side, captained by Smriti Mandhana, which won the inaugural WPL in 2024 and reclaimed it in 2026. RCB became the first franchise to hold the men's and women's titles at the same time.
RCB were founded by businessman Vijay Mallya and named after his Royal Challenge whisky brand. Through years of near misses, including three runners-up finishes in 2009, 2011 and 2016, the side built a roster of icons such as Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle. That long wait for a trophy only deepened the bond between the club and its supporters.
