    About our Oscars news

Latest news on the Oscars, with full coverage of the Academy Awards ceremony, best picture, winners, nominations, red carpet highlights, and awards season.

The Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars, are presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and remain the most prestigious honours in the film industry. The 98th Academy Awards took place on 15 March 2026 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, with Conan O'Brien hosting for a second consecutive year. One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, won best picture and a leading six awards, while Ryan Coogler's Sinners earned four, including best actor for Michael B. Jordan and best original screenplay.

Sinners entered the 98th ceremony with a record-breaking 16 nominations, surpassing the previous record of 14 shared by All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land. Jessie Buckley won best actress for Hamnet, while Paul Thomas Anderson took home best director and best adapted screenplay. Sean Penn won best supporting actor for One Battle After Another, and Amy Madigan won best supporting actress for Weapons. The ceremony also saw Autumn Durald Arkapaw become the first woman and first person of colour to win best cinematography, for Sinners.

The 98th Oscars introduced the first new competitive category in over two decades: best casting, won by Cassandra Kulukundis for One Battle After Another. The ceremony featured a rare tie in the live action short film category, between The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva. Political and cultural moments punctuated the evening, with pointed statements from winners and presenters, and a moving In Memoriam segment that paid tribute to Rob Reiner and Robert Redford, among others.

The 99th Academy Awards, honouring films released in 2026, are expected in early 2027. Looking further ahead, the landmark 100th ceremony in 2028 will be the last to air on ABC, which has broadcast the Oscars since 1976. From 2029, the ceremony will stream exclusively on YouTube under a deal running through 2033, marking a historic shift for one of television's most iconic live events. The 100th Oscars will also introduce another new category: best stunt design.

Since the first ceremony in 1929, when awards were handed out at a private dinner at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, the Oscars have evolved into a global cultural event watched by tens of millions. The awards season that precedes each ceremony — encompassing the Golden Globes, BAFTA Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and more — generates months of speculation over nominees and winners. For film fans, the red carpet, acceptance speeches, and occasional surprises remain an annual highlight.

Our Ðǿմ«Ã½ feed on the Oscars brings you the latest Academy Awards news from a wide range of sources, covering winners, nominations, ceremony highlights, and awards season developments year-round. Whether you follow the best picture race, track individual nominees, or simply enjoy the spectacle of Hollywood's biggest night, this feed keeps you informed and up to date.
